Rush Complete Sweep of Berry Conference Leading Foes with 3-2 Shootout Victory in Wichita

(Wichita, KS) - One night after earning a 5-2 win over the second-ranked Allen Americans, The Rapid City Rush completed a perfect road trip with a 3-2 shootout win against the CHL-leading Wichita Thunder. With the win, the Rush take over sole-possession of third place in the Turner Conference and widen their lead on the Quad City Mallards to four points.
Goaltender Tim Boron led the charge, turning aside five of seven shootout attempts on top of the 19 made in regulation. The Rush now return home for four home games in five nights, beginning this weekend against the Evansville IceMen. Tickets are available by calling 716-7825 or online at www.gotmine.com.
The Thunder got on the board early with a goal from Thomas Beauregard at 2:44 of the first period on a play set up by Alex Bourret. Rapid City responded near the midway point when precise passing between Jeff Kyrzakos and Collin Circelli set up Scott Wray for his 23rd goal of the season.
Wichita regained the lead, picking up the only goal of the second period on a slapshot from Justin Sawyer at the 14:42 mark.
It took over twenty minutes, but the Rush evened the score at 2-2 when Konrad Reeder's patience at the side of the net led to his 36th goal of the season, good enough for second in the league.
After a wild overtime period that included a vital penalty kill by the Rush, the contest extended to a shootout. The Rush received conversions from Jesse Schultz and Collin Circelli while the Thunder evened the series on goals from Matt Summers and Alex Bourret forcing a seventh round. In the top half, defenseman Riley Weselowski buried a backhand attempt past Adam Russo for the eventual game winner before Tim Boron stifled Chris Chappell's effort to lift Rapid City to the 3-2 'W'.
In the victory, Tim Boron reached the 20-win plateau for the first time in his career, improving to 20-10-2 this season.
