Bloomington Blaze News Release

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, saw their season-high four-game winning streak end on Wednesday night with a 4-2 loss to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The Killer Bees opened the scoring with a pair of first-period power play goals just 1:37 apart. Brandon Campos scored with 4:19 left in the opening frame to complete a 4-on-3 tic-tac-toe, and Aaron Lee made it 2-0 with 2:42 left when a drive was deflected and bounced into the net.

After a scoreless second period, the Blaze cut the deficit to 2-1 with 18:13 remaining in the third period when Jon Booras capped a 3-on-1 break with assists to Jordy Trottier and Brandon Richardson. Trottier tied the game at 2-2 with 9:09 left in regulation when he cleaned up a poke check in front of the net and stabbed the puck in stick side, with Richardson and Omar Pacha earning assists. The Killer Bees regained the lead at 3-2 with 6:15 left in the third period when Aaron Lee picked up his second goal of the game as Brady Leavold reversed direction behind the net and fed Lee at the open left post. The Bees stung again with 3:49 left when Tomas Klempa converted a wrist shot from the right circle to increase the lead to 4-2.

Current Central Hockey League Oakley Goaltender of the Week John Murray earned the win with 53 saves as the Killer Bees picked up their fifth straight win. The Blaze's Zane Kalemba took the loss with 24 saves. Rio Grande Valley was 2-for-6 on the power play while the Blaze were scoreless on three chances.

The Blaze conclude the home portion of their schedule on Friday and Saturday nights against Turner Conference rivals.
