
Wichita Defeats Canaries 3-1 in Game Three

WICHITA, Kan. - One crucial inning proved to be costly for the Canaries on Tuesday night. In the bottom of the third, Wichita (34-23) picked up four straight hits and three runs in route to a 3-1 victory over Sioux Falls (23-34) at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
The Wingnuts scored their only runs in the bottom of the third inning. Luis Hernandez led things off with a double that was followed by a single from Harrison Kain, an RBI single from Jayce Ray and an RBI single from David Espinosa. The final run in the inning came from a sacrifice fly from Starlin Rodriguez that allowed Jayce Ray to score from third.
Sioux Falls did pick up a run in the top of the sixth inning when David Bergin reached on a triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Brian Humphries. Bergin paced the Canaries offense, going 1-for-3 with a run and a triple.
Birds' starting pitcher Stephen Bougher (2-2, 4.53 ERA) got off to a rocky start, but finished strong as he threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs and seven hits to pick up the loss.
Wichita starting pitcher Jon Link picked up the win after tossing six innings as he gave up one earned run on four hits, while also striking out six Sioux Falls batters.
The Canaries continue action on Wednesday afternoon as they try for the series split with first pitched scheduled for 11:05 AM. Sioux Falls will send Jeremy Strawn (2-7, 4.59 ERA) to the mound in search of his third win in a Canaries uniform.
