Joplin Blasters News Release
Laredo, TX-The Blasters dropped a second straight gut-busting game as Laredo scored three times in the seventh for a 3-0 victory Wednesday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
Joplin (30-25) has fallen into third place in the South Division and their road losing streak sits at eight. With the three-game sweep, Laredo (32-26) improved to 8-2 against the Blasters in the season series. Joplin has also been shut out for the first two times this season. The contest mirrored Tuesday night's affair that was scoreless through eight. The series finale was scoreless until the seventh when the Lemurs put three on the board to break the gridlock. With two outs, Jared Mederos reached on an infield single in the hole at short. Ty Morrison followed with a single that bounced into center. D'Vontrey Richardson had the night's first RBI on another infield single that dribbled up the third base line. A delayed double steal resulted in a throwing error by the catcher that made it 2-0. Denis Phipps then capped the scoring with an RBI ground-rule double up the right field line.
On the mound, newly-acquired Luis Chirinos took the loss for Joplin. Chirinos (3-6) worked just two-thirds and allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits with one walk. Ryan Beckman posted the win in relief for Laredo. Beckman (2-0) worked two scoreless and hitless innings. John Brebbia worked the ninth and earned his ninth save of the season. Brebbia walked two and gave up one hit before ending the game with his second strikeout.
At the plate, D'Vontrey Richardson went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Ty Morrison and Kevin Taylor each collected two hits. For the Blasters, Omar Luna had two hits in defeat. Each side left nine men stranded.
