Montreal Alouettes News Release

Montreal, August 30, 2011 - Canadian kicker Sean Whyte was named the CFL's Special Teams Player of the Week following Saturday's high-scoring contest in Calgary which saw the Surrey-native break an Alouettes team record for most consecutive complete field goals.

Whyte kicked three field goals against the Stampeders, his first two from 37 and 43 yards out respectively, placing him level with Don Sweet's team-record 21 consecutive successful attempts, which has stood since 1976. Whyte's third attempt, from 42 yards out, then allowed him to take sole possession of the Alouettes kicking crown at 22 straight successful field goal attempts. The non-import kicker has been perfect in his last seven starts.

This is the second consecutive week in which the Alouettes have played that Whyte has taken home such an honour, having also been named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance against the Edmonton Eskimos prior to the bye week.

He now finds himself 6 field goals short of tying the CFL record for most consecutive complete field goals, which stands at 28.

Whyte also excelled in the punt game Saturday, averaging 45.9 yards per kick. His season average is 41.9, and he has seen his punting range steadily improve since the start of the year.

Next game The Alouettes will face the Hamilton Tiger Cats at Ivor Wynne Stadium this coming Labour Day Monday, September 5 at 1:00 p.m. EST (RDS HD, TSN HD, CKAC, CJAD and Sirius 158).
