Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have recalled forward Trent Whitfield on an emergency basis and placed forward Marc Savard on long term injured reserve (broken left foot). Whitfield will be available to play in tonight's game between Boston and the Nashville Predators at 7 p.m. at the TD Garden. With the move, the P-Bruins have 21 players on their roster, including 11 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
Whitfield, 32, ranks tied for third on the P-Bruins in scoring after recording three goals and five assists for eight points in the first six games of the AHL season, along with a plus-two rating. The 12th year pro and Providence captain was signed by Boston as a free agent on July 13, 2009. In his career, the center has appeared in 819 regular season games, including 177 NHL contests, totaling 549 points (223g, 326a).
