Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen - Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (6-8) field manager Eddie Dennis missed yesterday's game to go to Florida to become a United State citizen. He returned at the beginning of today's game as the WhiteWings beat the Edinburg Roadrunners (7-7) 6-4 tonight at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings scored multiple runs in an inning for the first time since Friday by taking a 2-0 lead against Miguel Martinez (0-1) in the bottom of the second. Casey Allen led off with a single and Kenny Hart followed with an infield single for his first-career hit. One out later, Joaquin Rodriguez hit a ground ball to advance the runners and Agustin Septimo hit a two-run single.

They did it again in the third as Jonathan Poterson hit a one-out single, Alfred Jospeh walked and Allen was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hart drew his first-career walk to record his first-career RBI. Danny Etkin then hit into a fielder's choice to score Joseph, making it 4-0.

The Roadrunners tied it in the fifth against Jorge Lugo. Osiel Flores led off with a walk, Robert Matlock singled and Nick Aranda walked to load the bases. Vincent Blue followed with a walk to force in a run and knock out Lugo. Juan Diaz came in and got a pop-out, but Bryon Smith hit a two-run double, and one out later, Angel Reyes hit an RBI- single to make it 4-4.

The WhiteWings took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Rodriguez singled and moved to second on a Septimo ground out. Rico Santana followed with an RBI-single to make it 5-4.

The WhiteWings added a run in the bottom of the eighth against Brian Martin. Rodriguez led off with a double and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After an intentional walk of Santana, Alberto Cruz hit a chopper to the right side of the infield. Second baseman Carlos Hereaud's throw home was not in time as the WhiteWings took a 6-4 lead.

Diaz (2-0) struck out seven in four shutout innings of relief for the win.

Julio Santana struck out two in a perfect ninth for his third save.

The WhiteWings and Roadrunners play game three of this four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 at Harlingen Field. Right-hander Maximino de la Cruz (0-1) is expected to face right-hander Aaron Guerra (0-0).
