Roadrunners Fall to WhiteWings

EDINBURG, Texas---- The Edinburg Roadrunners (7-7) lost the second game of the series to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (6-8) 6-4 at Harlingen Field on Thursday night.

Miguel Martinez (0-1) got the loss after he gave up five runs on eight hits in his six innings of work.

The WhiteWings took a 4-0 lead after they scored two runs in the bottom halves of the second and third innings.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Roadrunners would even the score. Vincent Blue walked with the bases loaded which allowed Osiel Flores to score from third. After an out with the bases still loaded, Bryon Smith hit a two-run double to the left field corner that scored Robert Matlock and Nick Aranda which made the score 4-3. Angel Reyes then tied the game at four with an infield single that allowed Blue to score from third.

Rio Grande Valley would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Rico Santana which made the score 5-4. The WhiteWings scored another run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Alberto Cruz to make the score 6-4.

Juan Diaz (1-0) pitched in four innings of relief for Jorge Lugo and did not allow a run on two hits while striking out seven. Julio Santana pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save of the year.

The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play the third game of this four-game series Friday night at 7:05 at Harlingen Field. Aaron Guerra will make his season debut for the Roadrunners as he will face Maximino De La Cruz (0-1).
