Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - Wilmer Pino hit a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th to lead the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to their second-straight walk-off win against the San Angelo Colts, 5-4, on Sunday at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings (36-26), who are winners of five in a row, are now within three games of the first place Colts (38-22).

With two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Edgar Trejo hit a ground-rule double and Pino followed with his single off Gorman Romero (3-1). It was Romero's first loss in two years with the Colts.

The Colts had opportunities to take the lead in the ninth and 10th innings, leaving the bases loaded against Mickey Cassidy (3-1) each time. In the ninth, Cory Patton grounded out to end the inning. In the 10th, the Colts had the bases loaded with nobody out, but a strikeout, a fielder's choice and a groundout allowed the WhiteWings to escape unscathed.

Alexis Hernandez hit his first home run as a member of the WhiteWings, and his second of the season, off of Alex Casillas to make it 1-0 with two outs in the second.

The Colts responded against Eddie Dennis Jr. in the top of the third. With one out, Ronnie Gaines walked, stole second and moved to third when the throw went into center field. Patton followed with an RBI-groundout to tie the game.

With two outs in the bottom of the inning, Leivi Ventura hit a two-run home run, his 15th of the season, to give the WhiteWings a 3-1 lead.

The Colts took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth. Danny Hernandez led off with a four-pitch walk. One out later, Gaines hit an RBI-double and Patton launched his 20th home run of the season.

In the bottom of the inning, with runners on the corners and one out, David Peralta hit into an RBI-fielder's choice against Chace Vacek to tie the game.

The WhiteWings and Colts play game three of this five-game series on Monday at 11:05 a.m. during the big splash when the WhiteWings transform Harlingen Field into a water park. Right-hander Alexander Concepcion (5-4, 6.33) is expected to face right-hander Adam Kramer (2-1, 7.08). Gates open at 6:05.
