Caps Complete Sweep with 6-5 Win
July 31, 2011 - North American League (NAmL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - For the second game in a row, a member of the Edmonton Capitals hit two home runs en route to a victory. On Saturday it was catcher Lou Santangelo, and on Sunday afternoon it was outfielder Todd Linden who crushed a pair out of the park as the Caps beat the Lake County Fielders 6-5.
Linden hit two home runs, including a pivotal seventh-inning grand slam, to push the Caps past the Fielders on Sunday as the home team completed a four-game series sweep over their foes from Lake County. Edmonton improved to 36-25 with the slim win, keeping them two games behind the Calgary Vipers for first place in the North American League's North Division.
Linden drove in all but one of the Caps' runs in the victory, as he crushed an opposite field solo home run off the scoreboard in the fourth inning, and then with Edmonton trailing 3-2, he drove one into the parking lot beyond the right field fence with three runners aboard for the grand slam to make it 6-3. Shortstop Enrique Cruz had an RBI double to account for the Caps' other run.
The win didn't come without some tense moments in the ninth inning, however, as closer Bartolome Fortunato gave up two runs to make the score 6-5. He was replaced by David Davidson, who recorded all three outs and stranded two Fielders on base to finish off the victory and earn his first save of the season. Tom Boleska earned the win for the Caps, pitching the scoreless seventh and eighth innings with a pair of strikeouts.
Sunday's matinee game was another edition of Family Pack Sundays presented by Dental Choice and 630 CHED, as fans were able to purchase four tickets to the game, four hot dogs and four Pepsi for just $52. There was also an autograph session with the entire team after the game. The Caps are now off to Maui for nine games starting on Tuesday before returning to Edmonton on August 12 to start a six-game series with the Yuma Scorpions.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer, featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Flex packs are available in multiples of eight for $48 less than day-of-game pricing. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
