San Angelo Colts News Release
Edinburg, Texas---After sweeping the Roadrunners the Colts moved onto the second leg of their road trip to face the WhiteWings. In a game that looked like it was a blowout early, turned into a narrow affair in the ninth. San Angelo would come up just short after trailing by eight runs twice tying it in the ninth and then losing it in walk off fashion 15-14.
The Colts scored in the first on an RBI single by Daryl Jones and the Colts lead 1-0. Despite the high score Jones still remains one short of setting the new Colts single season homerun record. Rio scored three though in the bottom of the first and took the lead 3-1. San Angelo then scored a pair in the third to tie it at 3-3. The Wings would drop eight runs in the fourth on the Colts, as fourteen men batted and Rio was in front big 11-3. The Colts would score another pair in the fifth on a two-run homer by Ronnie Gaines (18) and San Angelo was down 11-5. After the WhiteWings scored three in the bottom of the inning to make it 14-5, it looked like it was going to be a long night for San Angelo.
It was then that the Colts began a comeback that was unbelievable. They would score in five straight innings with a solo run in the sixth and seventh, as well as pair in the eighth to make it 14-9 going into the ninth. The Colts would not quite down five and managed to tie in on a grand slam by Cory Patton (19) in the ninth, to make the score 14-14. San Angelo would lose it though in the bottom of the ninth on a sac fly RBI by Edgar Trejo with a runner at third, by the final score of 15-14.
The Colts and WhiteWings go at it again on Sunday. In game two San Angelo will send out right-hander Alex Casillas (3-0, 5.34) against fellow righty Eddie Dennis Jr. (1-1, 7.49) for the Rio Grande Valley. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. catch all the action on 101.9 "The Fire".
