Fielders Drop Third Straight against Capitals

Lake County Fielders News Release

Edmonton, Alberta - The Lake County Fielders (27-29) dropped their third straight game in Edmonton as the Capitals offense stayed hot and the Fielders bats lay dormant.

After having a rough first inning in which starting pitcher Mike Lueck gave up three hits and surrendered two runs, he came back strong to pitch three straight innings of shutout ball. Unfortunately for Lueck, his offense was unable to produce any runs to even up the score throughout the pause in the Capitals offensive attack.

In the bottom of the fifth the Captials bats came alive once more led by Lou Santangelo who smacked a three run home run. In total, the Caps sent nine hitters to the plate, five of which reached on hits, and four runs crossed the plate.

Reliever Bret Severtson pitched a solid inning and a third of relief until Jesus Gomez came in the game in the seventh and gave up Santangelo's second homerun of the game. Edmonton added two more runs as starter Lou Pote continued to dominate Fielders hitters. Pote threw seven innings, giving up just one run (an RBI double by Derek Perren), on six hits, while striking out eleven.

The Fielders will go out for game four this afternoon in hopes of avoiding the sweep as they look to gain momentum before returning home on Tuesday evening. You can catch all the action beginning at 3:00PM (CT) on 1220 AM WKRS, wkrs1220.com, or at fieldersbaseball.com.
