Down 6-5 the Calgary Vipers (39-24) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning leading to a 10-7 victory over the Chico Outlaws (28-32) at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Defence led the way for the Vipers as they threw out two runners at the plate, one runner at third base, and also rolled two double-plays. Calgary had to recover from behind in the game after blowing 4-0 and 5-4 leads to trail heading into the bottom of the seventh. At the plate Wilver Perez led the way with three hits, including a home run to tie the game, four runs scored, and two runs batted in. Chad Ehrnsberger also contributed with two clutch two-out run batted in singles. With the win the Vipers took three of four from the Outlaws and also hold onto their two games lead atop the North Division standings.

Mike Burns (2-1) recorded the win after his team scored three runs in the seventh while Jason Roenicke (2-2) took the loss by allowing those three tallies in an inning and a third of work.

Calgary jumped onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning as Jonny Kaplan was hit by a pitch, stole second base, Wilver Perez collected a run batted in double, Jimmy Rohan singled, C.J. Ziegler doubled for a RBI, and Lino Garcia grounded out to score a run for a 3-0 advantage.

The Vipers tacked on a run to the lead in the third for a 4-0 score when Perez walked, stole second base, and scored on a two out RBI single from Chad Ehrnsberger.

Chico tied the game at 4-4 in the fourth frame as Bobby Hill walked, Brian McFall singled, Jake Rife collected a three-run home run, Adam Buchini walked, and Patrick Terry doubled for a RBI.

Calgary took back the lead at 5-4 in the fifth inning when Perez singled, again stole second base, and again with two outs Ehrnsberger delivered a RBI single.

The Outlaws quickly tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth as Rife doubled, Patrick Terry reached on a fielding error, and Brandon Fowler collected a RBI single.

Chico took the lead at 6-5 in the seventh frame when Hill walked, McFall was hit by a pitch, and Rife singled for a RBI.

The Vipers retook the lead quickly in the bottom of the seventh inning at 8-6 as Perez tied the game with his ninth home run of the season, Rohan singled, Ziegler doubled, and Lino Garcia drove in both with a two-bagger.

In the eighth Calgary added some breathing room when Louie Templeton singled, Kaplan collected a RBI double, Kaplan stole third base, and Rohan collected a sacrifice fly for a 10-6 advantage.

The Outlaws threatened in the ninth frame and pushed across one run for a 10-7 final as Hill doubled and McFall singled for a RBI.

Calgary now hosts three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USSSA Florida Pride and the NPF Tennessee Diamonds Tuesday August 2nd, Wednesday August 3rd, and Thursday August 4th all at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.

The Vipers hit the road to take on the Lake County Fielders starting Tuesday August 2nd at 6:00 MDT.

The Vipers return home to Calgary and Foothills Stadium on Friday August 12th at 6:30 to take on the Chico Outlaws.
