Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

FORT WORTH- Brandon Jones drove in six runs in a doubleheader to help the Fort Worth forge a split with Rio Grande Valley with the WhiteWings winning the first game 5-4 but losing the second, 4-2.

In the first game at LaGrave Field Sunday night, Jones drove tripled in Jose Ruiz and later scored in the bottom of the second inning and then doubled in two more runs in the third off Clint Bowker to give the Cats a 4-2 lead.

But the WhiteWings added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings while Eddie Dennis Jr., Wander Perez (2-1) and Nick Lenzendorf, who earned his 10th save, held the Cats at bay out of the bullpen.

Then in the seventh, Ruddy Yan led off the inning with his 100th hit of the season, then stole second base with two out and scored on Alex Ruiz's opposite field single to right field off T.J. Bozeman (2-2) to give Rio Grande Valley the victory.

Rio Grande Valley was also aided by right fielder Robert Moron, who not only drove in the first run of the game with a double in the second inning but twice threw out runners on the basepaths in key situations.

In the second game, Steven Barnes (6-5) held the WhiteWings to just two hits and no runs in six innings. Barnes got all the runs he would need when Jones, the leading home run hitter of the North American Baseball League, hit a 3-run home run to left in the bottom of the fourth inning off Cole Stephens (6-5) to give the Cats a 3-0 advantage.
