Perez, Thunder Defeat Roadrunners

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners were held to two runs by Alexei Perez as they fell 6-2 to the McAllen Thunder Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Perez (4-5) struck out 10 batters in seven innings pitched as he allowed two runs, one of which was earned.

Derek Perren got the scoring started in the top of the first with an RBI double that allowed Carlos Hereaud to score for the 1-0 lead.

McAllen (30-52) tied the game at one as Craig Hertler came in to score after a throwing error on his stolen base of third.

After the Thunder scored two runs in the bottom of the third extending their lead 3-1, Edinburg (49-32) made it a one-run game in the top of the fourth as Tim Battle came in to score on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the fourth, Lyndon Poole drove in Davis Page with an RBI fielder's choice. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Fidel Hernandez hit an RBI single that scored Poole that made it 5-2 McAllen.

An error by the catcher in the bottom of the seventh allowed Gianison Rosa to score from third making it 6-2 in favor of the Thunder.

Adrian Garza came in and pitched two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth innings giving McAllen the 6-2 victory.

Matison Smith (7-5) took the loss after allowing six runs, three of which were earned, in seven innings.

The Roadrunners and Thunder play game three of their four-game series Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Julio Castro (3-1) is expected to face Alex Smith (3-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
