Fort Worth Cats News Release

Fort Worth shortstop Brandon Jones hit 3-for-5 with six runs batted in and two scored himself in the Cats' Sunday night doubleheader with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth, TX.

Jones had a 2-RBI double in the third inning of game one that gave the Cats a temporary 4-2 lead until the WhiteWings would rally back to score three unanswered runs in the late innings to seal the 5-4 victory. Jones also capped off the day with a three-run homerun in the fourth inning of game two to put Fort Worth on top for good in a 4-2 win.

Trevor Harden (8-4) had won seven of his previous eight starts going into Sunday night but seemed to be thrown off by the impromptu off days. Harden pitched six innings and gave up four runs on eight hits and struck out four WhiteWing batters. Harden passed the torch to reliever T.J. Bozeman who could not keep the game at a 4-4 draw and gave up the eventual game-winning run.

Steven Barnes (6-5) started game two for Fort Worth and looked his best throwing for six innings and shutting out Rio Grande Valley on only two hits. Barnes had five strikeouts.

The Cats could not make up any ground on the second-place WhiteWings and still remain two games behind Rio Grande with 14 games remaining in the season. The two teams will face off once again Monday night at 7:05 p.m. at LaGrave Field. Tickets can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
