San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- After losing by eight runs in the series opener, the Abilene Prairie Dogs returned the favor with a 10-1 win over the Colts Sunday night at Foster Field.
The Prairie Dogs hit two home runs, and had 10 extra-base hits in the game. They led 6-0 after just two innings.
First baseman Kyle Nichols crushed a two-run homer, his 11th of the year in the first, and left fielder Joe Weik hit a three-run shot, his 12th, in the sixth.
Colts' starter Brian Henschel (5-8) took the loss, allowing seven runs on 13 hits in five innings. It was not until Henschel was out of the game when San Angelo got on the board.
Trailing 10-0 in the sixth, shortstop Danny Hernandez scored from third on an RBI ground out by first baseman Daryl Jones. Hernandez began the inning with a single, and advanced all the way to third on a base hit by designated hitter J.J. Sherrill.
It proved to be the only run Abilene starter Freddy Flores would allow. Flores (1-1) pitched a complete game, scattering seven hits and retiring the Colts in order five times. Flores struck out two and did not walk anybody.
The win improves Abilene 32-48, while the loss drops San Angelo to 41-41. This series continues Monday night at Foster Field. It will be a Haircuts at the Ballpark Night, sponsored by SportClips. Fans can receive haircuts at Foster Field for just $5, courtesy of SportClips. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
