Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that they have signed left-handed pitcher Justin Phillips (6-3, 220, Harding University), who pitched for the Amarillo Dillas last season.
Phillips was 1-3 with a 7.80 ERA. In eight starts, he pitched 45 innings, striking out 17 while allowing 58 hits and 30 walks.
Phillips began his career with Idaho Falls (Pioneer League, Rookie Level) in the Kansas City Royals farm system in 2007. He was 3-1 with a 3.97 ERA, striking out 39 and walking 17 in 47.2 innings while allowing 52 hits.
For his career, Phillips is 8-17 with a 6.00 ERA in 44 games (29 starts), striking out 149 while walking 104 in 120.1 innings.
Phillips is expected to start game one of tonight's doubleheader at Edinburg Baseball Stadium at 6:05 p.m.
