Camp Drives in Four More in Colts' Win

San Angelo, TX-For the second night in a row, Colts third-baseman Landon Camp hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs as the Colts took game three of their four-game series from Coastal Bend 11-5 on Saturday Night at Foster Field.

The Thunder drew first blood in the first on a RBI single from designated hitter Brian Nichols, before the Colts would respond in the bottom-half on a wild pitch, which brought in leftfielder Isaac Garcia from third and tied the game at one apiece.

Coastal Bend came back with three runs in the second. Second-baseman Mike Lewis drove in a run with a double, which was followed by a two-run homerun by centerfielder Dustin Smith (1) to give the Thunder a 4-1 lead.

But the Colts would score three runs of their own in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from shortstop Butch Ballez and a two-run single by second-baseman Mark Ramos to tie the game at 4-4.

Things stayed that way until the fifth when the Colts plated four runs; the big blow coming on a three-run homer from third-baseman Landon Camp (8), his second in as many nights, as San Angelo took a 7-4 lead. They wiould add two more runs in the sixth on a RBI double from designated hitter Jason Crosland and an RBI fielder's choice by right-fielder David Cardona to make the score 10-4.

The Thunder got a solo-homer in the eighth by Nichols (15) to cut the lead to five, which was followed-up by a Camp sac-fly in the bottom of the eighth to give the Colts the final of 11-5.

Overall, Camp went 4-4 with three singles to go along with his homerun and four RBI. Centerfielder Ronnie Gaines chipped in by going 3-5 with a double, two singles and three runs scored. The Thunder were led by Smith who went 2-5 with a homer, single and two RBI while Nichols went 2-5 with a homer, single and two RBI.

Starter Ezekiel Astacio (5-4) got the win. After struggling in the first two innings, Astacio settled down and retired 13 of the last 15 hitters he faced going six innings and allowing four runs on six hits while striking out seven. The loss went to Coastal Bend starter Doug Brandt who went 4.1 innings and allowing eight runs on eight hits.

The teams will wrap up their series on Sunday with first-pitch set for 6:05. Chandler Barnard (3-2, 4.56 ERA) will go for the Colts against lefty Frank James (3-3, 5.72 ERA) of the Thunder. Sunday will also be Travel Toothbrush Giveaway presented by Twin Mountain Dentistry as the first 1,000 fans will receive a free toothbrush. The broadcast of the game begins at 5:50 with the Kemps' Pregame Show and can be heard on 1260 KKSA.
