San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX - San Angelo third-baseman Landon Camp went 2-4 with a homer, double and four RBI as the Colts jumped out to a nine-run lead en route to an 11-5 win over Coastal Bend on Friday night at Foster Field.
The Colts scored early and often as they plated all 11 of their runs in the game's first four innings, including five in the bottom-of-the-first. Second-baseman Mark Ramos brought in leftfielder Isaac Garcia from first on a double to put San Angelo on the board. Three batters later, first baseman Josh Collazo doubled in Ramos to make the score 2-0. That was followed by a big three-run homer from Camp (7) to break the game open and give the Colts a 5-0 lead.
Coastal Bend tried to get back into things with a solo-homerun from catcher Gianison Rosa (1) to cut the Colts' lead to four.
But San Angelo responded in a big way in the bottom-half by scoring four more runs on RBI doubles from centerfielder Ronnie Gaines and Collazo. The Colts would score a third run on a passed ball by the Thunder, before Camp stepped up and knocked in his fourth run of the game on a double to finish the four-run second.
The Colts added another run in the third on an RBI single by Collazo to make the score 10-1 before Coastal Bend hit their second solo-homer of the game in the fourth by first-baseman Alex Fernandez (4). San Angelo then extended their lead to 11-2 on Garcia's first professional homerun, a solo shot, in the fourth.
Things stayed that way until the seventh when the Thunder picked up two runs on an RBI groundout from centerfielder Dustin Smith and a RBI single from right-fielder Mike Goss. Coastal Bend would add another run in the eighth on another solo-homer, this time by designated-hitter Brian Nichols (14), to make the score 11-5. The homerun was Coastal Bend's sixth of the series.
Other than Camp, Collazo had another outstanding night as he continued to inch closer to the .400 mark as he went 3-4 with two doubles, a single, two runs and three RBI. The top five hitters in the Colts' lineup (Garcia, Ramos, Gaines, Crosland, and Collazo) scored 10 of the team's 11 runs, with Ramos leading the way with three.
Rosa led the Thunder offensive attack by going 3-4 with a homerun, single, double, RBI and two runs scored. Nichols also chipped in going 2-4 with a homerun and single.
The 11 runs was more than enough for Colts starter Brian Heaston (2-1) who got the win after going 6.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out five. Starter Jared Sutton (0-3) took the loss for Coastal Bend after allowing five runs in only 0.2 innings on four hits. He had to leave the game in the first after suffering an apparent elbow injury.
The teams will play game three of their four-game series on Saturday with first-pitch set for 7:05. Ezequiel Astacio (4-4, 5.05 ERA) will go for the Colts against lefty Doug Brandt (2-4, 4.59 ERA) of the Thunder. Saturday will also be the Youth Glove Giveaway presented by Concho Valley Partnership as the first 500 fans 12 and under will receive a free youth baseball glove. Saturday is also Sterling and Coke County Night and Bring Home the W courtesy of Whataburger. If the Colts win Saturday's game, all fans in attendance will receive a coupon to Whataburger for a free hamburger. The broadcast of the game begins at 6:50 on 1260 KKSA with the Kemps Pregame Show.
