Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today they have signed former Major League Baseball left- handed pitcher Jesus Sanchez.
Sanchez pitched for the Florida Marlins from 1998-through-2001, the Chicago Cubs in 2002, the Colorado Rockies in 2003 and the Cincinnati Reds in 2004. He is 23-34 with a 5.32 ERA. In 162 games (83 starts), he has thrown 524.2 innings, allowing 564 hits and 281 walks while striking out 384. Sanchez ranked third in the National League in shutouts with two during the 2000 season.
He made his Major League debut on March 31, 1998 at home against the Cubs, throwing one scoreless inning of relief. He picked up his first- career strikeout, getting Sammy Sosa looking to leadoff the seventh inning.
Sanchez started his minor league-career in the New York Mets system in 1994 and has pitched parts of five seasons at AAA. In the minors, Sanchez has a career mark of 58-40 with a 3.70 ERA, including 794 strikeouts in 872.2 innings.
The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas. In its fourth season, the United League is in the midst of a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Coastal Bend, Laredo, Harlingen and San Angelo.
