Goldsmith Delivers, Colts Win in Extra Innings

San Angelo, Texas---Bradley Goldsmith drove in two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Colts and Broncos into extra innings. With two outs in the tenth, it was Bradley again singling in Josh Collazo as San Angelo (18-9) beat the Laredo Broncos (9-18) 8-7.

In the bottom of the third inning, Colts shortstop Butch Ballez deposited a two strike fastball into the the left field bullpen giving San Angelo a 1-0 lead. It was Ballez's first round tripper of the year.

The score would remain 1-0 until the top of the sixth inning. With one out in the frame, Miguel Ortiz grounded towards third base. Blake Shaffer fielded and threw to first base, the throw was in the dirt skipping past Josh Collazo, as Ortiz moved to second base. The following hitter Mario Mendez stroked a shot over left center field giving the Broncos a one run lead.

The Colts got that run back in the seventh as San Angelo collected three straight singles from Jason Landreth, Josh Collazo, and Hunter Jobes. Joe Rhomberg grounded to second collectinghis first RBI of the season as Landreth came across home plate and knotted the game at two.

Heading into the bottom of the eighth, Bradley Goldsmith and Jason Diaz quickly got things going with a single and a walk. An attempted sacrifice bunt by Ronnie Gaines became a single as the Broncos tried to nab Goldsmith at third. Bradley beat the throw and the bases were loaded. Collazo, the Colts newly acquired first baseman, slammed a double to left centerfield clearing the bases and driving the Colts to a 5-2 lead.

Chase Vacek entered the ninth with a save opportunity. After getting the first two batters of the inning, things quickly unraveled as the Broncos batted around adding five hits and two walks while plating five runs and taking a two run lead.

The Colts refused to accept a loss. In the bottom half of the ninth, Hank Lanto led the inning off with a hit by pitch and Butch Ballez quickly doubled. With runners at second and third, Goldsmith delivered with a line shot up the middle scoring both runners and sending the game to extra innings as the game was tied at seven.

In the tenth, Collazo would begin things for the Colts with a leadoff single to left. Hunter Jobes sacrificed. The Broncos attempted to gun down Collazo at second, however the throw was not in time and runners stood at first and second. After one out, Lanto singled as Collazo was held at third and that loaded the bases. With bags full of Colts and two away, Goldsmith delivered yet again. This time it was a ground ball up the middle scoring Collazo as San Angelo managed their second extra inning win on the season.

Jacob Ramos (2-0) worked a perfect tenth inning earning the victory. The loss was handed to Julio Pinto (0-2). Drew Coffey (1-1) earned a no decision while completing seven innings of work, allowing one earned run, striking out four.

San Angelo amassed fifteen hits and eight runs. The Colts were led by Bradley Goldsmith who collected three singles and three RBI's including the game winner. Josh Collazo also had three hits.. The new addition to the Colts contributed a double and a single adding three RBI's. Butch Ballez hit his first dinger of the season and a double with an RBI and two runs scored.
