Roadrunners Fall to the Thunder

ROBSTOWN, TEXAS ---- J.J Trujillo allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings or work in his first start of the season to help the Coastal Bend Thunder defeat the Edinburg Roadrunners 7-4 at Fairgrounds Field on Wednesday night.

Eric Montoya (2-1) picked up his first loss of the season after he allowed six runs on 11 hits in six innings for the Roadrunners.

The Thunders (15-12) offense scored a total of six runs in the second, third and fourth innings combined against Montoya.

Edinburg (13-14) scored in the top of the sixth inning against Trujillo (1-0) after Amado German came across the plate on a wild pitch. Eric Gonzalez added another run in the inning on his second homerun of the season to make it a 6-2 game.

In the top of the seventh, German drove in Bryon Smith with an RBI single to bring the Roadrunners within three.

Coastal Bend scored an insurance run in the bottom half of the seventh on an RBI single by Chris Lewis that extended the lead to 7-3.

Smith hit a solo homerun, his third of the season, in the top of the eighth inning to make it 7-4, the eventual final for the night.

Benny Cepeda pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the season.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will play their final game of this four-game series Thursday night at Fairgrounds Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tim Haines (3-1) is expected to pitch for the Roadrunners.
