Harlingen, TX - The Harlingen WhiteWings (4-8) scored in each of the first five innings en route to beating the Laredo Broncos (6-6) 12-6 tonight at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings got on the board first yet again. In the bottom of the first, David Fowler struck out against Henry Lozado (0-3) but reached on a passed ball. Kevin Griffin and Ryan Fox followed with singles. One batter later, Argelis Nunez hit a two-run single to make it 2-0.

The Broncos got one back in the top of the second against Jorge Lugo (1-0) as Ivan Reyes led off with a walk, moved to second on a ground out, to third on a Johnny Lopez single, and scored on a wild pitch.

The WhiteWings got that run right back in the bottom of the second. Carl Johnson got hit by a pitch and stole second. Candelario Perez followed by grounding out to shortstop Arnoldo Ponce. Johnson took off for third after Ponce threw the ball and first baseman Johnny Lopez fired towards third, but the ball got away, allowing Johnson to score and making it 3-1.

The Broncos defense scored an unearned run in the third as Luany Sanchez reached on an infield single and moved to second on a wild throw. Sanchez moved to third on a wild pitch. Edgard Clemente walked and Jose Salas followed by grounding into a double play that scored Sanchez to make it 3-2.

The WhiteWings answered back again as Griffin and Fox led off the third with walks and Nichols followed with a single. A wild pitch scored Griffin to make it 4-2.

The WhiteWings sent ten men to the plate in the fourth to score runs and take an 8-2 lead. Perez started things off by getting by a pitch and Miguel Peguero pinch-ran. Bub Bergstrom dragged a bunt for a single. David Fowler followed with a grounder between third and the mound that Ponce had to charge from short. He threw the ball away, allowing both runners to score and Fowler to get all the way to third. Griffin followed with an RBI-douible, and three batters later, David Cardona was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Griffin and knock out Lozado. Matt Bauman came in and retired two-straight hitters to end the inning.

Ivan Reyes hit a three-run home run in the top of the fifth to bring the Broncos within 8-5, but the WhiteWings got two back on a two-run double by Brian Nichols in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-5.

The Broncos got another unearned run in the seventh when Sanchez reached on an error and later scored on a Salas RBI-single against Todd Lutz.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bergstrom singled against Bauman. Two outs later, Nathan Crawford was brought into face Fox, who hit his second home run of the season to make it 12-6.

Derek Bennett pitched a scoreless ninth to end the game.

The WhiteWings get tomorrow off before returning to action on Tuesday in Edinburg at 7:05 p.m. Dan Valentin (2-0) will make his first start at Edinburg Stadium since pitching for the Roadrunners of the Central League in 2005. The Coyotes are expected to send left-hander Bric Steed (0-1) to the mound.
