HARLINGEN - Scoring ten runs on twelve hits, the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings powered their way past the McAllen Thunder, coming back twice to win 10-8.
With the win, the âWings win the series, taking three of four from McAllen.
The WhiteWings (34-26) move eight games above .500 for the first time since June 9th when they started out 12-4.
Luis Chirinos (5-2, 4.14 ERA) gets credited with the win while Kurt Houck (3-6, 5.92 ERA) is charged with the loss.
Facing an early 3-0 deficit, Wilmer Pino got the WhiteWings on the board in the third inning with a two-run homerun, his ninth of the year, to bring the âWings within one, trailing 3-2.
With two outs in the inning, the WhiteWings strung together four straight hits, bringing home three runs during the two-out rally to give the âWings their first lead at 5-3.
The lead didn't last long as Antoin Gray in the next inning, pounded a grand slam over the left field wall to give the lead right back to McAllen at 7-5.
The WhiteWings responded in the bottom of the fifth with three runs to retake the lead at 8-7. Leivi Ventura started the scoring with an RBI triple as Edgar Trejo responded right back with an RBI single. Carl Johnson recorded an RBI fielder's choice to give the WhiteWings their eighth run and the 8-7 lead.
A David Peralta two-run homerun, his team-leading 15th of the year, extended the WhiteWings' lead to 10-7 in the sixth inning.
Juan Cedeño, striking out seven of the twelve batters he faced, surrendered only one hit in relief as he helped the WhiteWings get through to the eighth inning when Edgar Martinez came on and recorded his league-leading 18th save.
The WhiteWings face San Angelo on Saturday night, starting a five game series against the Colts as the WhiteWings look to move into first place, as they currently sit five games back in second place.
