San Angelo Colts News Release
Edinburg, Texas---The Colts won their third straight against Edinburg on Thursday night winning by a final of 13-6. San Angelo continues to erase the notion that they can only hit homeruns at home as they added four more homeruns making it ten homeruns in the first three road games on their longest road trip of the year. One of those homeruns was by Daryl Jones, who one night after the Colts would break the Colts team single season homerun mark, would tie the individual homerun run record.
The Colts struck quick and often in an eight run second inning as a dozen men batted. San Angelo hit three homeruns in the inning when Vic Ferrante (3), Mark Ramos (8) and Ronnie Gaines (16) all homered. Clay Calfee's bases loaded clearing double and an RBI single by Trey Carter accounted for all the rest of the runs and San Angelo led 8-0. The next inning the Roadrunners scored three on an RBI singles by Osiel Flores who drove in one and Robert Matlock who drove in two, which made the score 8-3.
The score remained that way until the eighth when San Angelo scored four more, the first on a Daryl Jones solo homerun. The homerun his 25th of the year, tied the Colts single season homerun record shared by both Jason Crosland who did it last season and Guy Giuffre. Trey Carter triple also drove in two and the Colts were up 12-3. The Roadrunners scored three in the bottom of the inning an RBI single by R.J. Harris and two errors and it was 12-6. San Angelo added one in the ninth on an infield pop up that turned in a Clay Calfee double that drove in another, his fourth RBI of the night; as the Colts went on to win 13-6. Chandler Barnard went six innings, allowing three runs, while striking out seven to pick up his 8th win of the year.
The Colts go for the sweep on Friday as they send right-hander Brian Henschel (5-5, 4.88) to the mound; it will be Brian's first start since winning the NAL Rawlings Pitcher of the Week award. He will face-off against right Tim Haines (0-0, 0.00), who will be making his first start for the Roadrunners. The first pitch is at 7:05 p.m. you catch all the action on 101.9 "The Fire".
