Late Back and Forth Decides Game

Scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning the Calgary Vipers (38-23) defeated the Chico Outlaws (27-31) 6-5 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Leading 4-0 after the first inning the Vipers allowed three runs in the third frame and another two in the top of the seventh before taking the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. With the win the Vipers have won six straight games and hold onto their three games lead atop the North Division standings.

Out of the bullpen Chris Bodishbaugh tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts while hitting 97 miles per hour on the radar gun and Claudio Galva (15) earned the save by recording three straight strikeouts after the first two batters had reached in the ninth inning. Mike Burns (1-0) received the win as the pitcher of record when his team scored twice in the seventh while Jason Mackintosh (1-4) took the loss after allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Calgary jumped onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Jimmy Kaplan tripled, Wilver Perez was hit by a pitch, Jimmy Rohan walked to load the bases, C.J. Ziegler drove in a run with a base hit, Chad Ehrnsberger reached on a fielder's choice for a run batted in, Rohan scored on a throwing error, and Justin Tellam singled in one for a 4-0 lead.

Chico responded in the third frame as Kyle Wilson singled, advanced to second base on a fielding error, Kurt Steinhauer plated a run with a base hit, Bobby Hill singled, Steinhauer scored on a wild pitch, and Al Quintana delivered a RBI double for a 4-3 score.

The Outlaws took a 5-3 lead in the seventh as Jay Pecci was hit by a pitch, Hill singled, with two outs Quintana drove in a run with a base hit, and Jake Rife also singled for a RBI.

The Vipers answered in the bottom of the seventh inning when Perez singled, advanced to second base on a balk, Rohan collected a RBI single to tie the game, Ehrnsberger reached on a fielding error with two outs, and Drew Miller delivered a clutch RBI double for a 6-5 advantage.

This series against the Chico Outlaws at Foothills Stadium in Calgary continues on Saturday July 30th at 5:05 and concludes on Sunday July 31st at 1:35 where it will be 9-Inning Giveaway Day.

The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USSSA Florida Pride and the NPF Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
