WhiteWings pitcher Joe Rogers shuts down Dillas in 9-3 loss

AMARILLO, TX - Rio Grande Valley White Wings starting pitcher Joe Rogers allowed only three runs and six hits to the Dillas while White Wings batters pounded out 11 hits and nine runs off Dillas starter Dario Ferrand to defeat Amarillo 9-3 and take the series in front of 3,094 fans at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa on Sunday night.

Dillas starter Dario Ferrand (0-7) went an out past five innings, gave up nine runs and 11 hits while striking out two. Rogers (9-2) had his league-tying fourth complete of the season as he struck out ten and retired 13 batters in-a-row at one point.

Rio Grande Valley score twice in the first off four straight hits, Bub Bergstrom had an RBI single in the second, while Miguel Peguero hit a solo homer in the third for a 4-0 White Wings lead. Amarillo would score their first runs in the bottom of the third as Jordan Ramos hit a double down the left field line to score Josh Ashton and Jonathan Reynoso to bring the deficit to only two.

Two solo homeruns by Sam McLain and Teodoro Encarnacion in the fourth and an Alejandro Martinez RBI double in the fifth put the White Wings up by five. The Dillas would score again in the fifth as Ramos grounded out to score Kevin Moore from third to bring the score within four at 7-3.

The White Wings would score twice more in the sixth to move up 9-3, while Rogers retired all batters until a Gary Schneidmiller single in the ninth. Despite a Brett Donahoo single, the Dillas would come up in the last frame with no runs to fall 9-3.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 12-7 on the second-half of the season and 38-31 overall. Sunday, the Dillas will take on the first-place Alexandria Aces for the first game of a four-game series at 7:05 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50 pm on 1010 AM The Canyon and online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
