San Angelo Colts News Release

LAREDO, Texas - Saturday's doubleheader that was rained out in Laredo didn't do anything to stop the San Angelo Colts' dominance over the Laredo Broncos. The Colts won game one of Sunday's twin bill, 5-1, and have defeated Laredo 13 times in 18 meetings heading into the night game, a 7:30 p.m. start.

The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the second when Colts starter Darryll Roque surrendered his league-leading 12th home run, a solo shot off the bat of Juan Lebron. The 13th dinger of the year for Lebron was the only offense Laredo mustered against Roque as San Angelo took over the game from there.

The Colts evened the score in the third when Josh Hollingsworth drove home Wyn Diggs with a single off Broncos starter Benny Cepeda.

San Angelo took its first lead of the day in the fifth after Jason Diaz, who led off the inning with a single, scored on a base hit to center field by Josh Allan.

Ronnie Gaines gave San Angelo a 3-1 edge in the sixth with his only hit of the game, an RBI single up the middle. The Colts then scored for the third straight inning in the seventh and took a 5-1 lead when Madison Edwards hit a two-out, two-run homer, his second of the season.

Roque (2-5) picked up the victory, throwing 5 2/3 innings, giving up just one run on only three hits while striking out one and walking two. Roque faced just two over the minimum, partially thanks to two double plays turned by the Colts in the third and fourth innings. Chace Vacek relieved Roque in the sixth and faced Javier Lopez, who represented the tying run at the time, with two out and a runner on first. Vacek got Lopez to pop up to end the inning and the right-hander went on to pitch a scoreless seventh inning for his third save.

Cepeda (0-4) was credited with a complete game, albeit in a losing effort. He lasted seven innings, allowed five runs, all earned, on 12 hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

After the night-cap, the Colts continue their longest road trip of the season at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, July 23, when they begin a four-game series in Edinburg against the Coyotes. The Colts return to San Angelo on Monday, July 30 to begin a seven-game homestand.
