Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen, TX - The Harlingen WhiteWings (13-22) got home runs from Terry Roblez, Argelis Nunez and David Cardona to erase a five run deficit over the last four innings of regulation, only to fall to the Alexandria Aces (18-16) 9-8 in 11 innings tonight at Harlingen Field.

Bobby Darling (1-4) had retired 11-straight hitters going into the 11th inning, but Bryan Sabatella led off with a single, stole second, and went to third on a wild pitch that also gave Luis Guance a walk. Derek Bennett came in and gave up an RBI-single to Selwyn Langaigne to give the Aces a 9-8 lead.

Charlie Foster pitched a scoreless bottom of the 11th for his second save.

The WhiteWings jumped on Chad Linder in the first. Kevin Griffin hit a one-out double and scored on a two-out single by Ryan Fox. Nunez followed with his sixth home run of the season, a bullet line drive into the WhiteWings bullpen, to make it 3-0.

The Aces responded in the third against Alex Gett. Homey Ovalles led off with a single. Sabatella and Guance drew back-to-back one-out walks to load the bases. Langaigne hit a two-run single to make it 3-2.

The Aces sent 11 men to the plate in the fifth to score six runs (four earned). Eddie Fitzpatrick started the fifth with a single and Sabatella put down a sacrifice bunt. After a Guance walk, Langaigne hit an RBI-double and triple-crown threat Patrick O'Sullivan hit a three-run home run, his league leading 13th of the season and first against the WhiteWings. With two outs, Palmer Karr Jr. hit a grounder to second that Terry Roblez couldn't handle, allowing the inning to continue. Blake Butler and Ovalles drew back-to-back walks to load the bases and knock out Gett. Fitzpatrick came up against Bobby Darling and hit a two-run single to make it 8-3.

Roblez cut into the deficit with a two-run home run in the sixth to make it 8-5.

Fox led off the eighth with a triple to knock out Linder and Nunez hit another two-run home run, this time against Juan Carlos Ovalles (1-3), to make it 8-7.

Cardona tied the game with a solo home run against Ovalles in the ninth.

The WhiteWings and Aces play game three of this three-game series tomorrow night at 7:05. Right-hander Todd Lutz (1-1) will face left-hander Ramon Portillo (2-2).
