Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
AMARILLO, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes and Amarillo Dillas split a double-header Wednesday night at the Dilla Villa. The Dillas took the first game 10-9 and the Coyotes claimed the second game with a 10-6 victory. The first game was the completion of the May 25th game that was postponed due to bad weather.
When the May 25th game resumed Wednesday night, the Coyotes had a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning and two outs. The Coyotes and Dillas waited three weeks to complete the game that started at the end of May.
The lead did not last long for John Maschino, who started the game on May 25, as he gave up three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Errors played a big factor on the scoring in that inning as two errors allowed two runs to score for the Dillas. The second error gave the Dillas a 7-6 advantage. In the seventh inning, Daryl Jones tied the game at seven with his seventh home run of the season. Jones redeemed himself after making that costly error in the bottom of the sixth. In the bottom half of the seventh inning, A.J. Johnson regained the lead for the Dillas as he hit his seventh home run to make the score 8-7.
But the Coyotes answered in the top of the eighth inning with two runs of their own. Robert Matlock led the inning off with a double and later scored on a ground out by Angelo Fermin to tie the game at eight. Then Eric Gonzalez gave the Coyotes the lead with an RBI single to right field that scored Eddie Wilson. That made the score 9-8.
The Dillas added a run in the eighth that tied the game at nine and would win in the bottom of the ninth inning with an RBI single by Keith Brachold. That gave the Dillas a 10-9 victory over the Coyotes.
The second game was a different story for the Coyotes. In the fourth inning, Eddie Wilson gave the Coyotes a lift with a two run double but three would score after an error by Danny Bravo. Then Fermin hit an RBI single into center field for another run and that made the score 4-0 for the Coyotes.
The Dillas would answer back with two three run innings. In the bottom of the fourth inning Gary Schneidmiller hit a three run home run off of Edinburg starter Toro Trevino. With the score 4-3, the Dillas added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with three hits that gave them a 6-4 advantage. However, the Coyotes answered the Dillas' six runs with six runs of their own in the top of the sixth inning. The Coyotes sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs on four hits to make the score 10-6.
The bullpen kept the Dillas at bay the last two innings of the ball game. Adam Clay and Luke Prihoda allowed no runs and one hit in two and 2/3 innings of work combined. Clay (1-2) got his first win of the year with a perfect inning of work. Trevino went four and a third innings and allowed six runs on five hits. He got a no decision.
The Coyotes and Dillas will wrap up their series Thursday night at the Dilla Villa and then head home for three games against the Alexandria Aces and three against the Laredo Broncos.
