Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos scored 3 runs in an inning 3 different times as they defeated the San Angelo Colts at Veterans Field by a score 9-3 of on Tuesday night. The Broncos continue their 6 game home stand, as they play the finale of a 3 game series with the Colts on Thursday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Colts got on the scoreboard in the top of the 1st inning against Broncos starter Richard Bartlett. With one out Jason Anderson would walk. Then Bryan Frichter hit a double which would score Anderson to give them and early 1-0 lead.
San Angelo would add on to their lead in the top of the 3rd inning. John Anderson would lead off the inning, reaching base on an error by 2nd baseman Matt Lawman. Then Bryan Frichter singled putting runners on 1st and 2nd. After two strikeouts, Aaron Cone doubled scoring Anderson an extending their lead to 2-0.
The Broncos would get on the board in the bottom half of the 3rd. With one out, Anthony Bennett walked and then went to 2nd on a single by Dwayne White. Luany Sanchez would then come up and double into left field. That would score Bennett and move White to 3rd. With Santiago Guerrero batting, Colts starter Billy McKinney threw a wild pitch allowing White to Score and Sanchez to advance to 3rd. Then Guerrero would groundout and Sanchez would score to give Laredo the lead 3-2.
The Broncos would add on some more runs in the bottom of the 4th. Ivan Reyes led off with a walk. Then Matt Lawman singled moving Reyes to 2nd. Eric Padilla would advance both runners on a groundout. With Steven Wright batting, McKinney threw his 2nd wild pitch of the game, allowing Reyes to score and Lawman to go to 3rd. Then Wright struck out, but a passed ball by the catcher Wyn Diggs allowed Lawman to score and Wright to go to 1st. Wright would then steal 2nd base and would go to 3rd on a groundout by Anthony Bennett. Dwayne White would double scoring Wright from 3rd base. White would be thrown out at 3rd trying to stretch the hit into a triple ending the inning. But the Broncos were able to extend their lead to 6-2.
Broncos starter Richard Bartlett would leave the game after 5 innings in line for the victory. He gave up 2 runs, only 1 earned on 4 hits. He would walk 3 batters and strike out 7. Justin Staatz would come into the game in the 6th inning. He would walk 2 batters with 1 out, but got Charley Belew to hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat and keep Laredo up by 4 runs.
The Broncos would tack on more runs in the bottom of the 6th. Matt Lawman started off the inning with a single. He would be forced out at 2nd base on a fielder's choice by Eric Padilla who was safe at first. Then Steven Wright walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Justin Robinson would then come into the game to relieve Colts starter Billy McKinney. After getting Anthony Bennett to pop out, Dwayne White connect on a 3 run home run, his 6th of the season. That would give Laredo a 9-2 lead after 6 innings.
Staatz would run into some trouble in the top of the 7th inning. Tyrone Pendergrass led off with a single and went to 2nd on a walk to John Anderson. Bryan Frichter would then single scoring Pendergrass from 2nd and moving Anderson to 3rd. Rhett Barber would then make his Broncos debut and got Andres Rodriguez to pop out for the 1st out of the inning. He would then strike out Jason Crosland and Aaron Cone to end the threat and give Laredo a 6 run lead.
Barber would then come in to pitch the 8th and 9th innings and hold the Colts scoreless as the Broncos defeated the Colts by a score of 9-3.
The Broncos scored 9 runs on 11 hits and committed 1 error, while the Colts scored 3 runs on 6 hits and committed 0 errors.
The Broncos improve to 18-16 on the season. They currently trial the Colts in the standings by a ½ game for 2nd place in the league. The Broncos will be back in action on Thursday night for game 3 of a 3 game series against the San Angelo Colts in Laredo at 7:35.
