Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Despite battling back from a four and two-run deficit and then holding an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, the WhiteWings dropped a heartbreaking 11-8 decision in extra innings at Foster Field.

Shortstop Mark Ramos, who had been 0-10 in this series, belted a three-run shot over the left field wall against Danny Rondon (1-1 4.22 ERA) in the bottom of the tenth to give San Angelo (9-9) their second straight win.

For the WhiteWings, they fall to 12-6 on the year, but still maintain their first place spot in the South Division of the North American League.

The WhiteWings fell behind early, facing a 5-1 hole in the bottom of the fourth inning after starting pitcher Andrew Dowl gave up a three-run homerun to Davis Page in the bottom of the fourth.

The Wings would battle back and score two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the score up at 5-5.

San Angelo would respond and retake a two-run lead in the bottom of the sixth after a sac-fly from Trey Carter and an RBI single by outfielder Ronnie Gaines.

Faced with another deficit, the WhiteWings responded yet again in the very next inning. David Peralta sent a two-run homerun over the fence in left-center field to tie the score back up at 7-7.

With the score still tied at 7-7 in the top of the ninth inning, Peralta played the role of hero yet again as he knocked in his fifth homerun of the year-and second of the night-into left field to give the WhiteWings their first lead of the game at 8-7.

The lead wouldn't last very long.

The very first batter for San Angelo in the bottom of the ninth, Daryl Jones, hit his league-leading eighth homerun over the right field fence to tie the score at 8-8.

Going into the bottom of the tenth, Ramos broke out of his current funk to get his three-run homerun on Rondon to deliver the 11-8 win over Rio Grande Valley.

The WhiteWings take on San Angelo tomorrow night at 7:05 PM with Chase Davenport (2-1 5.40 ERA) expected to start.
