Yuma Scorpions News Release

Yuma, AZ - The Yuma Scorpions had some timely hits behind the strong pitching of Jon Huizinga, (1-1) Huizinga only threw 6-innings, but was able to strike out 10- batters. He was so prepared tonight he struck out seven of the first nine batters out. He only allowed 2-runs while he picked up the win. In four games, Huizinga has 20- strikeouts.

The bullpen tried to make the game interesting when Jacob Wiley came in for relief he only pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing one run. Julio Santana picked up the pieces and got the final out of the 7th with the bases loaded. From then, J.J. Leaper struck out two batters setting up Franklyn Gracesqui to accomplish the save. Gracesqui gave up a homerun in the 9th to Maui's Mitch Einertson, his second of the night.

The bats were alive for at least the beginning of the game for the Scorpions. J.J. Muse started off the scoring with a 2-run homerun in the 2nd. From that moment the Scor- pions seemed to have some fire for the first time this season. Teilon pushed across a run in the 3rd. MacDonald had an RBI single in the 4th, and Ponce plated the sixth run of the game in the 5th. That would be all the Scorpions needed to pick up the win tonight.

Saturday, June 11, the Scorpions will again take on Maui at Desert Sun Stadium. Game time will be 7:35pm. It will be Yuma Little League day. The closing ceremonies for the YLL will begin at 4:30pm, this is a one-hour schedule change.
