Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - First baseman Brent Metheny and centre fielder Todd Linden each hit a home run to lead the Edmonton Capitals to an 8-4 victory over the Lake County Fielders on a Saturday afternoon matinee game at TELUS Field.

The Fielders defeated the Caps 10-6 on Friday night, but the home team had a short memory and came back on Saturday with a solid effort to double up on Lake County for the win. The Caps improved to 8-6 on the North American League season, inching closer to the 11-4 Fielders for first place in the North Division.

Metheny led the way for the Caps as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and one run scored, while Linden went 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Third baseman Carlos Duncan also had a three-hit game, while Cody Nowlin smacked a two-run triple on a pinch hit in the eighth inning.

Edmonton's starting pitcher Daryl Arreola kept the Fielders' bats at bay for seven innings, giving up just three hits and two runs while striking out eight hitters. Chad Blackwell came in for the eighth inning and got all three outs on strikeouts, while Bartolome Fortunato polished off the win in the ninth. The Caps' pitchers have struck out an impressive 27 Fielders in their last two games.

"It's a good thing we had an afternoon game today, because we had a poor effort last night and didn't really have any time to dwell on it," said Metheny, who's hitting .408 with two home runs and 15 RBI through 14 games. "Lake County has a young team that's playing some good ball right now. They've got some big bats in the middle of the order, and it looks like it's going to be a battle with them and Calgary all season long."

The five-game series at TELUS Field continues with game four on Sunday, also a 2 p.m. matinee contest. It's another Dental Choice Family Pack Sunday presented by 630 CHED, as fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four Pepsi products for the value price of just $52. There's also a post-game autograph session with the full Caps team. The Caps and Fielders wrap up the series Monday with a 7 p.m. game.

The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
