WhiteWings Complete Doubleheader Sweep of Roadrunners

EDINBURG - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings completed the doubleheader sweep of the Edinburg Roadrunners on Saturday with a 4-3 win in seven innings at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The Roadrunners (33-19) got on the board against David Cross (3-5) right away. Ambiorix Concepcion hit his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot, with two outs in the bottom of the first. Robert Matlock and Carlos Hereaud drew back-to-back walks to set-up an Alexis Hernandez RBI-single to make it 3-0.

The WhiteWings (22-31) responded against Mike Reeves (4-4) in the top of the second. Arlon Quiroz drew a one-out walk and scored on a two-out double by Kevin Griffin to make it 3-1.

In the top of the fourth, Arlon Quiroz hit his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot, to tie the game. With two outs, Reeves plunked Griffin, Welinson Baez singled and Javis Diaz hit an RBI-single to give the WhiteWings a 4-3 lead.

That was enough for Cross, who struck out two, allowed six hits and walked two in six and one-third innings.

Luis Martinez recorded the final two outs for his first save.

The WhiteWings and Roadrunners complete this four-game series Sunday at 6:05 p.m. Right-hander Misael DeJesus (2-4) is expected to face right-hander Mark DiBernardo (5-2).
