WhiteWings bring Jimenez back

Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today they have signed right-handed pitcher Juan Jimenez, who pitched for the team last season.

To make room on the roster, the WhiteWings released right-handed pitcher Mike Swords.

With the WhiteWings last season, Jimenez was 2-4 with a 5.40 ERA. In 14 games (four starts), he pitched 43.1 innings and allowed 51 hits and 27 walks while striking out 35. He was lights out as a reliever, going 2-1 with a 1.96 ERA. In 23 innings, he struck out 20 while holding opponents to a .164 batting average.

He finished the season with the Alexandria Aces, pitching in five games with an 8.10 ERA. In ten innings he gave up 13 hits and six walks while striking out five.

Signed as a non-drafted free agent by the San Diego Padres on April 16, 2003, Jimenez pitched in the Padres system through 2006, getting as high as Class-A Clinton (Midwest League) in 2006. He then pitched with Coastal Bend (American Association) and Laredo in 2007.

For his career, Jimenez is 17-27 with a 4.84 ERA. In 93 games (49 starts), he has pitched 366.2 innings and struck out 285 batters. Jimenez has allowed 403 hits and issued 150 walks while holding opponents to a .280 batting average.

Swords allowed 13 runs (11 earned) in six innings over the course of three games for the WhiteWings. He allowed 16 hits and five walks while striking out two and uncorking two wild pitches. Opponents hit . 485 against him.
