Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that they have signed right-handed pitcher Jose Fragoso.
To make room on the roster, the WhiteWings released right-hander Todd Lutz.
Fragoso pitched in the Detroit Tigers and Oakland A's systems from 2003-through 2008, compiling a 22-and-21 record with five saves and a 3.26 ERA. In 129 games (16 starts), he pitched 276.1 innings, allowing 212 hit and 125 walks while striking 321. Opponents hit 2.09 against him.
After going posting a 1.13 ERA in June, Lutz struggled in July, posting an ERA of 11.05. For the season, Lutz was 2-1 with a 7.54 ERA. In 12 relief appearances, he pitched 22.2 innings while allowing 38 hits and nine walks with 13 strikeouts. Opponents hit .388 against Lutz.
The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas. In its fourth season, the United League is in the midst of a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Coastal Bend, Laredo, Harlingen and San Angelo.
