
Dillas Run Wild on WhiteWings

Harlingen - The Amarillo Dillas stole ten bases, including four in the first inning and four in the third, in a 6-5 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings tonight at Harlingen Field.
The Dillas had stolen ten total bases in their first eight games against the WhiteWings.
Keanon Simon had four stolen bases, Stantrel Smith had three, Eric Brown had two and Carlos Figueroa had one.
The Dillas (26-23) struck right away against Wendy Rosa (0-2). Simon led off with an infield single and stole second. One out later, Figueroa walked. After a double-steal, Trent Lockwood got hit by a pitch with two outs to load the bases. Smith followed with a two-run single to make it 2-0.
Justin Wenger led off the second with a single and Willie James drew a four-pitch walk. One out later, Andrew Wong singled to load the bases. One out after that, Terrance McClain drew a four-pitch walk to force in a run, making it 3-0.
The WhiteWings (23-26) got on the board against Justin Phillips (1-2) in the bottom of the second. Brian Nichols walked and Welinson Baez singled to start off the inning. Two outs later, Sandy DeLeon hit an RBI-single to make it 3-1.
The Dillas got that run back in the top of the third. Smith led off with a single and stole second. Brown walked to knock out Rosa. Jose Fragoso made his WhiteWings debut and his first pitch was bunted at and missed by Wenger with the runners in motion. It turned into a double-steal with the wheel play on, putting the fielders out of position to cover on a steal. Two outs later, Simon hit an RBI- infielder single to make it 4-1.
Fragoso pitched five shutout innings, striking out six while allowing three hits. He didn't walk anybody.
Juan Jimenez took over in the eighth and Wenger led off with a double. He moved to third on a groundout and scored on a single by Simon, He moved to second on the throw and stole third before scoring on a single by Wong to make it 6-1.
The WhiteWings bats came alive in the eighth. Agustin Septimo led off with an infield single and Joaquin Rodriguez walked. Rico Santana reached on a fielder's choice and Septimo moved to third. Nichols followed with an RBI-double to knock out Phillips. Robbie Wooley came in and allowed an RBI-single to Welinson Baez. After a walk to Juan Cabrera, Alberto Cruz hit an RBI-ground out to make it 6-4.
The WhiteWings mounted a rally in the ninth, Angel Reyes led off with a pinch-hit single to knock out Wooley. Coby Mavroulis came in and allowed a single to Septimo. After a sacrifice bunt, Santana hit an RBI-ground out to make it 6-5. Nichols drew a four-pitch walk to put the winning run on base, but Matt Smith struck out Baez to end the game.
The WhiteWings and Dillas play game two of this four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 at Harlingen Field. Left-hander Carlos Artiles (2-0) is expected to face right-hander Ralph Roberts (4-2).
