Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

EDINBURG- Romulo Ruiz's 2-run home run to left field highlighted a 5-run third inning that propelled the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to a 7-3 victory against the Edinburg Roadrunners Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Ruiz's homer, his second of the year, off Aaron Tullo (2-2) came with two out and immediately after third baseman Carlos Hereaud made a throwing error on a ground ball hit by Leivi Ventura. Later in the frame Nestor Castillo tripled in two more runs and Bryan Marquez singled in Castillo to complete the scoring of the WhiteWings' (31-23) big inning.

Leivi Ventura also hit a home run, his fourth since returning to Rio Grande Valley, and Luis Noel (5-2) scattered nine hits through seven innings to earn the victory. Nick Lenzendorf earned his sixth save of the season when he got out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the bottom of the ninth by coercing Osiel Flores to hit into a double play and striking out Tim Battle.

The Roadrunners (34-21) host Rio Grande Valley for the final time in the regular season today at 6:05 p.m. On Monday, the WhiteWings host "Pack the Park" and "Biker Parade Night," sponsored by Chuck's Ice House, and co-sponsored by Copz Lounge and Baloos. A few free tickets remain at these locations.
