San Angelo Colts News Release
Fort Worth, Texas --- The Colts withstood a late inning surge to defeat the Fort Worth Cats, 5-3, Saturday night at LaGrave Field.
An RBI single in the fourth by right fielder J.J. Sherrill gave the Colts a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, shortstop Landon Camp hit a two-run homer into right field, making it 3-0 San Angelo. It was Camp's team-best eighth home run of the year, and it scored first baseman Daryl Jones. Jones had reached base on an error.
The Colts built a 4-0 lead going into the eighth inning. In that time, starter Mike Hart was nearly flawless. During one stretch, he retired 14 in a row. Hart (4-1) earned the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits in seven-plus innings. He surrendered both runs at the start of the eighth inning.
Cats' catcher Derek Marshall hit a leadoff double in the eighth, and then scored on an RBI triple by centerfielder Randall Thorpe. Thorpe scored on the same play, courtesy of a Colts' error.
Fort Worth scored another run in the ninth on a leadoff homer by first baseman Jose Ruiz. It was Ruiz's fourth home run of the season. However, Colts' closer Erik Draxton settled down and recorded his league-best 15th save.
Cats' starter Blake Parry (3-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs, one earned, on five hits in seven innings.
The win improves San Angelo to 26-28, while the loss drops Fort Worth to 30-23. This three-game series concludes Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 1:05 p.m. Both seven-inning games can be heard live on KKSA beginning at 12:50 p.m.
The Colts next home game is Monday when they will host the Abilene Prairie Dogs. It will be Haircuts at the Ballpark Night, sponsored by SportClips. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
