Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that they have signed right-handed pitcher Ruben De La Rosa (5-9, 165), who struck out 47 in 31 innings for the Gulf Coast League Nationals (Rookie Ball) last season.
De La Rosa was 5-1 with three saves and a 0.87 ERA in 31 innings. He allowed 23 hits and 10 walks.
The 23-year old takes the roster spot of Miguel Matos (6-4, 190), who was deactivated yesterday with a sore elbow. Matos is 2-3 with a 5.78 ERA in 12 games (four starts).
The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas that has sent two players to Major League Baseball in Edwar Ramirez (New York Yankees) and Robinson Cancel (New York Mets). In its fifth season, the United League is in the midst of a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Harlingen, Laredo, Robstown and San Angelo.
