
'Runners Stay Perfect with Walk-Off

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners remain perfect against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings after an 8-7 walk-off win Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of 5,317 in attendance.
Edinburg is now 11-0 against RGV on the season.
The WhiteWings (20-31) got on the board in the first against Wardell Starling with an RBI single by Luany Sanchez that allowed Javis Diaz to score from second. Wellington Dotel followed with an RBI single of his own that drove in Sanchez giving RGV the 2-0 lead.
Wellinson Baez started the top of the second with a single then came into score on an RBI double by Roberto Rodriguez. After moving to third on a ground ball, Rodriguez came into score on a sacrifice fly by Yeurys Tejeda making it 4-0 WhiteWings.
The Roadrunners (33-17) answered back in the bottom of the second against RGV starter Andres Rosales. Robert Matlock started the inning with a walk then stole second. Carlos Hereaud drove Matlock in with an RBI single. An Alexis Hernandez single put runners on the corners for Albert Gonzalez who hit an RBI single scoring Hereaud from third. Wilmer Pino hit a single to load the bases for Felix Molina who followed with a two-run single scoring Hernandez and Gonzalez tying the game at four.
In the top of the eighth, Eric Gonzalez hit a two-out single and then moved to second after a single by Baez. A wild pitch from Starling allowed both runners to move up a base and then a passed ball allowed Gonzalez to score giving the WhiteWings the 5-4 edge.
RGV added an insurance run in the top of the ninth with a solo home run by Tejeda making it 6-4.
Matlock was walked for the second time in the game to start the ninth and then moved to second after Hereaud singled. After a ground out that moved the runners to second and third, Melvin Perez hit a two-run double tying the game at six.
A fielding error in the twelfth by the Roadrunners allowed Arlon Quiroz to reach. Eric Gonzalez then singled to center putting runners at first and second. A fielder's choice by Baez put runners on the corners for Rodriguez who followed with an RBI single scoring Quiroz and giving the WhiteWings the 7-6 lead.
The Roadrunners rallied in the bottom of the twelfth against reliever Deybi De La Cruz (0-2). A passed ball after a strike out of Wilson Batista allowed him to reach to start the inning. Ambiorix Concepcion followed with a single to left center field putting runners at first and second. Matlock moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt and Hereaud was intentionally walked to load the bases. Vincent Blue tied the game with an RBI ground out that scored Batista from third and Osiel Flores gave the Roadrunners the walk-off win with an RBI double making the score 8-7.
Aaron Guerra (3-1) picked up the win after pitching two innings and allowing one unearned run and striking out two.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play the second game of their five-game series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
