Dillas Fall 7-6

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas fell behind early and couldn't make it all the way back against the Laredo Broncos as they fell 7-6 on Thursday night in front of 2,659 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas starter Ralph Roberts (4-3) lost his first game since early June as he allowed six of the seven runs and struck out a season-high eight Broncos. Laredo starter Juan Peralta (5-0) maintained his perfect record as he pitch six inning and allowed three runs with seven strikeouts. Broncos reliever Steve Raburn got his first save, finishing off the Dillas in the ninth despite a late run.

The Broncos got the first run in the third inning as Ryan Flynn led off with a double, went to third on a bunt single and scored on a Michael Murphy double play for a one-run lead. Laredo added more in the fourth as Jonathan Cisneros walked, Nick Mahin singled while DJ Dixon hit a two-run double. Dixon went to third and scored on an RBI sacrifice bunt by Flynn for a 4-0 Broncos lead.

Laredo added another run in the fifth as Salvador Paniagua hit an RBI double, but the Dillas responded in the bottom half of the fifth. Ron Recuenco led off with a double and scored on a Sam Palace RBI single. Following an Andrew Wong walk, Adam De La Garza singled home Palace for a 5-2 deficit.

The Broncos added another run in the sixth as Jason Diaz scored on a pair of errors for a four-run advantage, but the Dillas would soldier on. Wong led off with a walk in the seventh and went to third on an error to put runners on first and second. Joaquin Rodriguez sent his league-leading ninth triple of the season to left-center field to score both runners. A Daryl Jones double play scored Rodriguez for a 6-5 score.

Laredo added a run in the eighth as Mahin led off with a hit-by-pitch went to second on a groundout and scored on a Flynn RBI single for a two-run lead. Amarillo added a run in the ninth as Rodriguez reached third on an error to lead off and scored on a Carlos Figueroa RBI groundout. Stephen Douglas doubled to put the tying run at second, but Alberto Cruz struck out look to end the game with the Dillas falling 7-6.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 30-23 while the Broncos improve to 26-28. Friday, the Amarillo will take on Laredo for the second game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
