July 3, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
A day after Jon Topolski homered the Round Rock Express past the El Paso Diablos in the top of the ninth, Tommy Whiteman did the same. Only, it was two innings earlier.
Whiteman's two-run home run in the seventh gave the Express the lead and three relievers shutout El Paso over the past 3.2 innings to give Round Rock a 7-4 win in front of 3,273 at Cohen Stadium.
The Express and starter Nick Roberts were rolling along until the Diablos finally got to him to three runs in the sixth adn take a 4-3 lead. The biggest blow was a two-run double from Corey Myers.
However, that lead was short lived. Whiteman's team leading 12th homer of the season gave Round Rock a 5-4 lead. From there, Mike Burns, Max Tremblay and Eric Cammack limited the Diablos to one hit.
Chris Burke and John Tamargo had three hits each and, along with Anthony Acevedo and Whiteman, helped the top four batters in the lineup go 10 for 20 with five RBIs.
Burns (2-12) got his second win and Cammack picked up this third save. Carlton Wells (1-1) got the loss.
The four-game series will conclude Friday at 8 p.m. CT.
