METAIRIE—Nashville pitcher Dave Williams allowed no runs in seven innings to pitch Nashville to a 1-0 victory over New Orleans on Friday night before 11,925 at Zephyr Field. The crowd marks the largest attendance in Zephyr Field history.

Williams (2-1) yielded five hits and struck out three. Pat Mahomes and Mark Corey each threw a perfect inning of relief for Nashville (48-38). Corey struck out two and earned his 25th save.

Starter Jared Fernandez took the loss for New Orleans (50-37). Fernandez (5-8) allowed just one run and four hits while striking out six in eight innings.

Nashville scored its run in the third. Catcher Chris Snusz led off with a single and went to second on Williams' sacrifice bunt. Left-fielder Tony Alvarez then lined a single to right to score Snusz.

Colin Porter went 2-for-3 for New Orleans. The Zephyrs biggest threat came in the sixth. Henri Stanley led off with a single. Royce Huffman followed with a bunt and Stanley beat Williams' throw to second to put runners on first and second with no outs. Williams then got Jason Lane to fly out to right and Raul Chavez to bounce into a double play.

Prior to the game, Zephyr pitcher Jonathan Johnson announced his retirement. Johnson was 5-4 with a 3.92 ERA this season. He had 62 strikeouts and 27 walks in 78 innings. He had nine wild pitches and opponents were hitting .247 against him.

The Zephyrs will travel to Memphis to open a three-game series with the Redbirds. The first-game will start Friday at 6:35 pm.
