
Whitecaps Sink Captains 7-2

Lake County Captains News Release
(Comstock Park, MI)- Javier Betancourt laced a double to left field that plated two which capped a four run fourth inning and the Whitecaps beat the Captains 7-2 on Tuesday. In the bottom of the fourth, West Michigan sent eight hitters to the plated and scored five times to take a 5-2 lead. The Whitecaps used five hits and a hit batter in the inning to score the five runs.
Lake County took the early lead on Paul Hendrix 11th home run of the season. The solo shot took place in the top half of the second inning and the score was 1-0 Lake County. The Captains added on in the top of the third inning a one out single by Ivan Castillo scored another run and the Captains led 2-0 after three innings.
West Michigan led 5-2 but added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Five straight hits plated the two runs. Grayson Greiner singled home a run and so did Francisco Contreras and the lead swelled to five runs at 7-2 after five innings.
RHP Caleb Hamrick (3-6) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Hamrick allowed seven earned runs on 12 hits in five innings of work. Hamrick walked one and struck out two. Wander Beras pitched three innings of shutout relief and allowed just one hit and one walk. Beras struck out three.
RHP Chad Green (4-4) started game two for the Whitecaps and earned the win. Green pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks. Green tied his season high with ten strikeouts. The Whitecaps used two bullpen pitchers to blank the Captains over the final three frames to close out the ballgame.
The Captains will continue a brief three-game road trip. Lake County traveled to Comstock Park, Michigan to take on the West Michigan Whitecaps. On Wednesday, Lake County will send RHP Dace Kime (5-12, 5.26) to the mound and the Whitecaps will counter with RHP Jonathan Crawford (6-2, 2.99). First Pitch is at 7:00 PM from Fifth Third Ballpark.
