Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Despite a late rally to send the game to extra innings, the Beloit Snappers fell to the Peoria Chiefs 6-4 in ten innings Tuesday night.
Defensive errors and missed offensive opportunities once again plagued the Snappers as they went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and a crucial error in the tenth inning extended the frame and enabled Peoria to take the final lead.
Kevin Herget picked up the win for the Chiefs as he pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Sam Roberts recorded the loss for Beloit and Matt Stalcup picked up a no-decision (5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER).
The Snappers began the scoring in the second inning behind a solo shot home run from Phil Pohl. The home run was Pohl's second in two nights and his fifth of the season.
Peoria evened the game in the top of the third as CJ McElroy Jr. delivered an RBI-double to score Richy Pedroza from first base. McElroy went 3-for-5 on the night and now has 21 hits in 11 games against Beloit this season.
The Chiefs extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 advantage. With two outs, Ronald Castillo hit a double off the right field wall to get into scoring position. Rowan Wick came through clutch with an RBI-double to right field to score Castillo from second base.
Beloit answered in the bottom of the fourth, but stranded three runners on base to end the inning. After Peoria RHP Alex Reyes was hit with a line drive off the bat of Pohl, he walked two consecutive Snapper batters. B.J. Boyd hit a single to load the bases for Beloit and Branden Cogswell provided the RBI-single as he scored B.A. Vollmuth from third base. With the bases loaded and only one out, the Snappers couldn't capitalize as Chih-Fang Pan and Justin Higley struck out to end the inning.
In the fifth inning, Ronald Herrera hit a 2-run double to score Bryan and McElroy Jr. to give the Chiefs a 4-2 lead. Peoria stranded Herrera on second base as a lineout and a groundout ended the frame.
The Snappers cut into Peoria's lead in the bottom of the inning as Tyler Marincov provided yet another RBI as his double to left field scored Matt Chapman from first base.
In the seventh inning, the Snappers evened the game behind the hot bat of Marincov as he hit a towering solo shot home over the centerfield wall. Marincov is batting .500 (17-for-34) in his last ten games and has hit five home runs over the span.
After two scoreless innings, the Snappers had a chance to end the tenth inning unscathed but a fielding error from B.A. Vollmuth with two outs allowed the Chiefs to extend the frame.
Peoria capitalized as Herrera delivered his third RBI of the night, a double to score McElroy from second base.
Justin Ringo added another run as he sent an RBI-single up the middle to score Herrera and give Peoria the final 6-4 lead.
The Snappers and Chiefs return to action Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Pohlman Field for the second game in their three-game series.
