West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK - The Whitecaps pitching staff tossed its fourth shutout of the season, a 2-0 win over Dayton. Starting pitcher Jon Kibler threw six innings and allowed just one Dragon hit.
In his last four starts, Kibler is 4-0 with a 0.62 ERA. He has allowed just three hits in his last two starts.
West Michigan touched Dayton starter Matt Klinker for a run in the third inning on an RBI single by Joe Bowen that drove in Roger Tomas from second base. Tomas led off the inning with a double, which was his fourth hit in a row to start the series.
With two out in the fifth inning, Kyle Peter lined an infield single toward second baseman Kevyn Feiner that went off Feiner's collar bone on a bad hop. The hit drove in Joe Tucker, who tripled to lead off the inning.
Following Kibler's effort, Ruddy Darrow pitched two shutout innings of relief for West Michigan.
Dayton loaded the bases against closer Noah Krol in the top of the ninth with two hits and a walk. Keltavious Jones grounded out to second to end the game as Krol picked up his sixth save of the season.
West Michigan has won five games in a row for the third time this season.
Jamie Arneson finished the game for Dayton with two scoreless innings of relief.
