Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Defending Voyageurs Cup champions Vancouver Whitecaps FC will kick off their 2023 Canadian Championship campaign in the quarterfinals between May 9 to 11 against the winner of York United FC and Vancouver FC.
Dates and kickoff times are to be announced.
The 'Caps learned their fate during a live draw on OneSoccer Tuesday evening, which featured former Whitecaps FC striker and current liaison of club and player engagement Tosaint Ricketts, as well as former Whitecaps FC midfielder Terry Dunfield.
The 'Caps road to defending the Voyageurs Cup will be:
Quarterfinal: May 9-11 (home or away)
Semifinal: May 23-25 (away)
Final: June (home)
York United FC, coached by former Whitecaps FC captain Martin Nash, will host CPL expansion side Vancouver FC in the preliminary round between April 18 to 20. If York win, the side from Ontario would host Vancouver Whitecaps FC, but if Vancouver FC win then Vancouver Whitecaps FC will host the match at BC Place as Vancouver FC has elected not to host a Canadian Championship game. Whitecaps FC and York United FC met for the first time in the 2022 Canadian Championship semifinals, with the 'Caps winning 2-1 at BC Place.
Should Whitecaps FC advance to the semifinals, they would play on the road between May 23 to 25 against one of TSS Rovers (League1 BC), Valour FC (CPL), Pacific FC (CPL), or Cavalry FC (CPL).
If Whitecaps FC were to advance to the final, the 'Caps would host the championship match at BC Place, which is set to be played in early June.
All Canadian Championship matches will air on OneSoccer, available as a linear channel on Telus' Optik TV (Channel 980) as well as online at OneSoccer.ca, through the OneSoccer app and on the fuboTV Canada platform. Fans will find extended coverage for the Canadian Championship across Canada Soccer's digital channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube featuring the hashtag #CanChamp.
